The power of empty spaces
From two of my artist colleagues I´ve learned a lot through the years. Especially things about making surfaces alive and specifically to bring life to empty spaces, in a subtle way.
One thing that I specifically want to point out, is what I call "The power of empty spaces". My point of view is that the empty spaces, and the spaces "in between" the shapes, figures or other clusters of obvious concrete elements, is very important. Or may I say, maybe even more or at least just as important as the rest of the art work.
This means that I am trying to work with the dynamic in the surfaces to make them look interesting and vibrant. I struggle quite a lot by trying to make white surfaces in between look interesting, by painting subtle changes in the shades and with very small amount of other colors added to the white. It sure is a challenge, but a very good one!
