To kill your darlings
During my studies at the Art School of Kristianstad (a very, very long time ago:)), the teachers always told us to ”kill our darlings”, and I am still trying to live by that motto, even if it´s hard sometimes. To paint something, and then paint it over, and over, and over again….to start fresh many times in one painting, sometimes leaves me with great pain. It is hard to see what needs to be done, and what is the best thing to do, during the process, but when the work of art finally is completed, I realize that it was necessary. That it was a part of the process and that I had to go through it to grow and learn. So today it was a ”darling-killing-day” for me. I painted things over and started fresh on some of the paintings that I wasn´t satisfied with.
